November Program: Karla Alexander
November 20, 2024 @ 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Quilt designer and author, Karla Alexander lives in Salem Oregon, with her husband Don and family dog, Lucy. She is the Mom to three sons, William, Shane & Kelly. Karla was a featured artist on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, episode #603. A featured quilter in the Fons and Porter magazine, a contributor to the quilt calendar by Martingale & Co. as well as the book Creative Quilting, Volume II and Skinny Quilts II. All books were published by Martingale & Co, That Patchwork Place. In addition to her books, she has released her own line of patterns under the name Saginaw Street Quilt company. She has been a featured teacher at many quilt retreats and has taught thousands of students how to quilt using a variety of methods, including her own stack methods. She has made hundreds of quilts with hundreds more waiting to be made! Karla’s philosophy regarding quilting is to enjoy the process, learn from your experience and take what you learn from one project on to the next. As a teacher, she enthusiastically inspires her students to discover and create their own individual style in their quilt making journeys. With all the many things to worry about, she believes quilting isn’t one of them, but rather a time to experience the “creative flow” and enjoy!
We are excited to “welcome back” Karla Alexander, quilt designer and author, as our presenter for our November 20th meeting. She will be teaching a class the following Saturday, November 23rd. Members may choose one of four different straight seam patterns, or choose to do improvisational piecing. The cost of the class is $50. The class will be held at the Dayton First Baptist Church, 9-4. Bring a lunch, sewing machine and supplies. If you have not taken a class from Karla, this is a great opportunity for you to do so. She is a great piecing instructor, teaching many basic skills and lots of tips and tricks. Class signups will be at the October meeting.
