July Program … Karen Walker Presents “Piecing Tiny Pieces”

July 17 @ 10:00 AM 3:00 PM

Karen Walker will be featured at the July program and will teach a 3-hour “PieBirds” workshop
after the July 17th meeting. Below is her biography:

Karen Walker of Laugh Yourself into Stitches grew up on a small Oregon farm. As a young girl,
she spent days sewing with her grandma, picking strawberries, riding her horse, and painting
murals on her bedroom walls.

In 1995 she made her first quilt. Using scissors and templates (the way grandma taught) she
completed a turtle quilt for her then 5-year-old son, Tucker. Little did she know there were acrylic
rulers and rotary cutters. Once she discovered them, her whole world changed!

In 2010 Karen purchased a longarm and began a small business to help with college tuition for
her 2 sons. In 2013, she began designing quilt patterns and has been published in Simply
Vintage Magazine, Simply Moderne, Quiltmania, and one of her quilts was chosen for the cover
of the Keepsake Quilting catalog. Recently, Quiltfolk Magazine featured Karen in an email
expose. Karen’s patterns are all traditionally pieced with a fold-art vibe.

In January 2024 her first fabric line called “Huckleberry Saltbox” for Riley Blake Designs was released, and her
second fabric collection called “Sewing Your Oats” will be in shops December 2024.

Precision Piecing, or “Piecing Tiny Pieces” as Karen calls it, is her specialty. She shares her thoughts and
tips for successful piecing in many of her patterns through online tutorials, but she doesn’t expect absolute
perfection. It’s all about the journey and the joy of creating.
